Ogun Reiterates Commitment To Curb Gender Based Violence

The Ogun State Government has reiterate it's commitment to curb all forms of Gender Based Violence in the state with full enforcement of the VAPP Law.

The Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Funmilayo Efuwape made this assurance known  during a public sensitization talk organized by the Ministry in collaboration with Nigerian For Women Project ( NFWP) and United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) in commemoration of year 2021 16 Days Activism on Elimination of All forms of Violence Against Women and Girls held at Court Yard Marquee, Oloke, Abeokuta.

Efuwape emphasing on this year's theme " Orange The World: End Violence Against Women and Girls" said that citizens should support victims as well as form a team to apprehend  perpetrators when identified to put on end to the harmful practice.

She said the purpose of this awareness talk was to gather needed knowledge for the cause of fighting the menace, adding that  VAPP Law  now has a simplified version to improve the knowledge of the citizens on all forms of violence.

While giving lectures on the simplified version of VAPP Law, Mr. Damola Lapite, a seasoned lawyer said that the provision of VAPP Law has widened the scope of rape to include intensional use of force to penetrate the vigina, anus or month of another person with any other part of his or her body or anything else.

He added that anything that open up a person to economic abuse were situations that VAPP Law covers.

One of the participants, Mrs Mosunmola Majekodunmi, a Gender Based Violence Response Network Team member appreciated the government for organizing such a sensational talk to enlighten the citizens, urging women to speak out when necessary.
