To further ensure improved health status of pensioners, the Ogun State Government has advised them to prioritise their wellbeing, as it is paramount to attaining a better life after retirement.
The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun gave this advice in Abeokuta, while addressing some Local Government Pensioners, who were in her office to process the payment of their gratuities.
Adeniregun explained that, the payment of part of their gratuities was the desire of the State Government to ensure that Pensioners live quality lives, as well as providing other basic amenities for the benefit of the citizenry. adding that the senior citizens should spend the money judiciously.
"Now that the State government has been disbursing the gratuity to you pensioners, I believe that this gesture should be commended, and it will be expected that the money is expended on things that will improve your wellbeing, such as healthy diets and medication as prescribed by your doctors, so that you will continue to enjoy good health and live comfortable life during your retirement”, she said.
The Permanent Secretary enjoined the pensioners to always embrace dialogue rather than protests while agitating for their demand, assuring that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun would continue to ensure the welfare of the people, particularly, regular payment of monthly pensions.
In their separate responses, some of the beneficiaries who were retired primary school teachers and Local Government workers, Rev. Peter Adebayo and Mrs. Victoria Akinrelere, appreciated the State government for its concerted effort for the payment, soliciting for the extension of same benefit to other pensioners.
