The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu in Ogun State have been commended for organising a free medical outreach for the less privileged in the society.
Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi gave the commendation in Oru, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the State, while declaring open an outreach in commemoration of the Association's 32nd Annual General Meeting.
Talabi said the Association had been giving professional support to various health programmes of the present government, saying the gesture would boost healthcare delivery in the State.
Describing community health as a crucial preventive measure to healthy living, the State Scribe noted that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration had been sincere and unrelenting in its drive at ensuring healthy living among the people.
"The administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun is very sincere with the doctors, the level of sincerity is pronounced, that is why General Hospitals and virtually all Primary Health Centres across the State are being renovated and equipped with modern gadgets to provide quality healthcare for our people. Not only that, the administration has employed doctors and the process of employing more is already ongoing”, he said.
Also speaking, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, applauded the resident doctors for the initiative, adding that such a programme would further complement government's healthcare services.
In his remark, the Chairman, Ijebu-North Local Government Area, Bolaji Odusanya called on the people to avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the Association by adhering to the medical advice given to them.
In an interview with OGIS correspondent, the Association’s President, Dr. Mutiu Popoola disclosed that different medical cases had been treated and those who needed surgical attention were referred to tertiary health care facilities for further examination and treatment.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Miss Adenike Adebayo from Ago Iwoye, Mrs. Toyin Oladele from Mamu and Bola Ogungbe from Ijebu-Igbo lauded the Association and State government for the gesture, describing it as cost effective.
