The Deputy Governor of Ogun State Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele says the present administration, has identified the strategic role Information Technology (IT) is set to play in driving his agenda for the State and has laid down policies to explore its potentials, Such as the recent launch of Ogun State Digital Economy Infrastructure Project among others.
Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele who made this known at the 2021 annual Committee of E-Business Industry Heads, CeBIH, retreat held in Abeokuta, added that the State’s Bureau of Information Technology is committed to the setting up of two additional tech hubs similar to the Tech Hub already setup in Abeokuta.
She noted that E-Business facilitated by internet connectivity has come to stay in the State as demonstrated by government steady adoption and progression over the years.
Giving the Ogun State example, the Deputy Governor said ‘’E-Business has complemented governments effort in making sure that regardless of where you are, you can make payments for your taxes, fees, levies at http://pay.ogunstate.gov.ng’’
"In fact, studies by the World Bank confirm a direct correlation between internet penetration and GDP growth especially in developing economies. Nigeria and particularly Ogun State are beneficiaries of this growth" she said.
While stating that she was pleased that the organisers of CeBIH 2021 Annual retreat chose Abeokuta as the preferred location for its annual retreats, Engr Salako-Oyedele admonished the industry stakeholders to continue to proffer innovative contributions and hard work which will elevate e-Business in Nigeria and made the industry a worldwide success story.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs Aishah Ahmad, said to achieve the best in e-Business, data collection and consideration must be protected. Operational risk consideration must be addressed and financial stability must be maintained, adding that CBN has done a lot towards advancing the system in the last years, to include e-payment system, strengthening payment infrastructures, implementation of the open banking frame work, improve efficiency and resilient of payment structure, and Launching e-naira.
She assured that CBN would continue to provide the needed support to succeed on the journey.
