The Ogun State Government has assured retirees in the State of blissful retirement through prompt processing and payment of their benefits, as well as giving attention to complaints and issues affecting the welfare of senior citizens.
The Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro made this known at the 2021 Pensioners' Day in Abeokuta, saying wellbeing of the State’s workforce and senior citizens is paramount to the present administration.
Dr. Aigoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mr. Olukunle Sodeinde said the Day is set aside to celebrate the senior citizens who had served the State meritoriously.
"The State government recently released the third and fourth quarters promised fund to offset the backlog of outstanding gratuities for both the State and the Local Government Pensions. I therefore enjoin our senior citizens to continue to partner with this administration to move the State to a greater height”, the Head of Service said.
Earlier, the Ogun State Chairman of Pensioners’ Union, Comrade Waidi Oloyede appreciated the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for paying the pensioners as and when due and for prompt release of the quarterly payments of gratuities throughout the year 2021.
He requested that the State government implement the Federal government's 33.4 percent increase in pension that was raised in 2010, as it is being done in other States of the federation, adding that government should put more effort to raise the quarterly payments so that more pensioners would benefit.
On his part, the National President, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade Godwin Abumusi, gave kudos to the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun for doing the needful for his members in the State and urged the government not to relent.
In his goodwill message, the State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Akeem Lasisi congratulated the retirees and wished them a joyous celebration, assuring that government is looking into the issues related to their welfare.
