As part of activities marking the year 2021 NULGE Week, the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, under the leadership of Comrade Olatunji Ayuba, has staged a peaceful rally to the Ogun state House of Assembly, Oke-mosan Abeokuta demanding for local government autonomy.
According to the President of the Union, Comrade Olatunji Ayuba, he said giving the local government autonomy, will enhance good service delivery at the grassroot, and also give the local governments, the capacity to embark on meaningful projects, thereby fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
He said the Local government which remains the nearest to the people must be able to meet the yearnings of the electorate, and reduce the burden on the Federal and State governments.
While also speaking on the state of insecurity in the Country, Comrade Ayuba called for more concerted efforts by all stakeholders, saying that the security of lives and properties is a task for everybody.
While appreciating the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government for its various intervention in upholding the sanctity of the local governments administration in the State, he urged the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo to pass the message of local government autonomy to the Governor.
Responding on behalf of the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Akaoluwa Olufemi, felicitated with Ogun NULGE on the year 2021 week.
He assured that the paper presented by the President of NULGE Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Ayuba Olatunji will be presented to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, who is currently on a state function.
