2022 BUDGET: OGSG TO EXPEND N56BN ON EDUCATION

 


           Committed to providing affordable and qualitative education to its teeming young ones, the Ogun State Government has presented N56bn which is 16 percent of its 2022 budget for the education sector.


          Presenting the 2022 Budget tagged, ‘Budget of Restoration’ in Abeokuta, the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said the total State funding was estimated at N350.7bn, which would include the State internally generated revenue.


          The Governor promised that the government would continue to create enabling environment for learners, by providing the required provisions that would make teaching and learning activities easier and more relevant.


          He revealed that part of the programme of government for the year 2022 was to digitalised the education sector for optimal performance, hence, the plan to put in place free internet service for all public schools, which would help to integrate the use of technology into the school curriculum.


          "Highlight of the 2022 budget is in line with our ISEYA pillars. Education, which includes early childhood, technical and vocational, as well as tertiary institutions is N56,71.21bn which is 16 percent of our proposed budget", he said.


        Abiodun pointed out that his administration has initiated policies and programmes that would address the downward trend of education in the State, noting that policies have been put in place to address all relevant stakeholders in the educational system, such as the students, teachers, schools’ administrators and parents, among others.


       The Governor, who highlighted some of the achievements in the sector to include, rehabilitation of over 956 schools, approval for the N200m as annual State education intervention fund which would address the infrastructure deficit in State owned tertiary institutions, approval for purchase of buses for the tertiary institutions, payment of bursaries for the indigene students, OgunTEACH intervention programme, among others.


     Abiodun said that teachers have continued to enhance their efficiency and productivity through series of government sponsored seminars and workshops, promising that capacity building would be at the forefront of government policies for the new year.
