As part of activities marking the World Science Day, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP) has organized a workshop on Orange fleshed Sweet Potatoes (OFSP) for students of Titialayo Agbaje Memorial Comprehensive High School, Imodi-Imosan, Odogbolu Local Government.
Speaking at the event which took place at the school premises, the Block Extension Agent, OGADEP, Mrs Sakirat Salisu, said the concept behind the workshop was to demonstrate ways of processing orange fleshed sweet potatoes and the nutritional values in it.
She explained that the workshop would afford the students to know the three recipe derivable from orange fleshed sweet potatoes, such as juice, porridge and chips which she noted were rich in vitamin A.
"The students belong to a Farmers Fans Club, where they are being taught about different farm produce today being the World Science Day. So we are using the opportunity to organizing this event for the students on the harvest and demonstration on orange fleshed sweet potatoes. We will teach them how to process the potatoes to juice and the nutritional value of the fruits", she said.
Speaking Earlier, the Vice Principal of the School, Mr. Vicent Thompson appreciated the staff of OGADEP for organising such event, imploring the students to utilise the knowledge gained from the workshop for their health benefits.
One of the Students, Festus Layus, expressed delight at the training, which he noted had exposed them to additional sources of Vitamin A which is good for the body.
