The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has urged women engineers to continue to uphold the ethics and morals of the profession, as well as help change the notion that engineering is meant for men.
Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who stated this in Abeokuta, during the investiture of the 3rd Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Abeokuta chapter, said there was need to increase girls and women participation in engineering.
"I urge all of us, to remain committed to the development of APWEN, so as not to stray from the noble course of improving the interest of professional women engineers", she said.
She charged the newly inaugurated executives to build on the legacies of their predecessors and at the same time initiate new ideas, that would move the association forward.
In her remarks, the National President, APWEN, Engr. Funmilola Ojelade, congratulated the new executives, charged the members to initiate more developmental programmes, that would encourage young girls to choose engineering as a career, as well as mentor young female engineers.
In her welcome address, the outgone Chairman, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, said APWEN was a division of Nigeria Society of Engineers, noting that it serves as a catalyst for advancing female engineers in the country and increasing awareness, that engineering is a suitable career for girls.
Responding, the new Chairman, Engr. Temitayo Adebuyi, appreciated the deputy governor for her unflinching support the outgone executives and other stakeholders who have contributed to the advancement of engineering in the State and the country at large.
