An online radio presenter, Akanda Oro, popularly known as Awikonko, has been released by the police in Oyo State.
According to Amudat Babatunde, aka, Lady K, Awikonko was freed on Monday “thanks to Sunday Adeyemo ‘Igboho’ and all concerned for their quick intervention”. She disclosed this in a post on her known Facebook page.
It would be recalled that Awikonko, an associate of Yoruba Nation lead agitator, Sunday Igboho, was arrested last week by the police over alleged defamation of character.
This is coming after he had presented an online radio programme alleging that Igboho was betrayed by one of his closest allies, Honourable Tunji Omolewu, popularly known as Janbele.
According to him, Janbele allegedly revealed Igboho’s secrets to operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) that raided the Ibadan residence of the Yoruba Nation activist on July 1. Igboho is currently being detained in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
It was learnt that Awikonko who had been in hiding was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital last week. He was expected to be charged to court today (Monday).
