In a bid to curb cholera outbreak in Ogun State, the State Government has commenced massive sensitisation against the menace, as well as treatment of contaminated wells in Abeokuta North and South Local Government Areas of the State.
The Program Manager, Rural Water Sanitation Agency (RUWSTSAN), Mr. Sola Ogunbo, who said this during a two-day massive campaign against cholera, noted that it is important to treat water being used by residents, stating that proper hygiene is the only way to reduce the disease.
Ogunbo urged residents not to engage in open defecation as it has been confirmed that feces have many viruses that could cause cholera outbreak, advising them to cook their meals properly, to reduce the threat to the barest minimum.
He said the campaign is apt, because cholera outbreak is common during dry season, adding that the present administration would not rest on its oars in providing potable water for the citizens, charging them to always cover their food and wash their hands regularly.
"If we could try as much as possible to wash our hands frequently, desist from open defecation, and drink treated water, we will have a cholera free society", Ogunbo said.
Speaking on behalf of the communities, Mr. Muhammad Awal, appreciated the State government for the sensitisation, saying it had created awareness on how to curb occurrence of cholera in their environment.
The campaign was held at Agbo Afoju Sabo in Abeokuta North, Adatan/Isale Abetu and Isale-oja Kuto both in Abeokuta South Local Government Areas of the State.
