Former Liverpool defender, Glen Johnson, has picked Luis Suarez as the club’s best player of the Premier League era ahead of Mohamed Salah.
Johnson believes Salah is ‘right up there’ with Suarez, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid, but the Egyptian international is not number one.
Salah became the fastest Liverpool player ever to score 100 Premier League goals when he netted in their 3-3 draw with Brentford last week and recorded a sensational solo effort as Liverpool drew 2-2 with Manchester City on Sunday.
“What he has achieved has been amazing and I don’t think anybody could have envisioned that from his days at Chelsea.
Mohamed Salah is unbelievable and he is right up there amongst the best Liverpool players to have played in the Premier League.”
He added, “I played with Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, so it is hard for me to look past players such as them, but if you’ve any of those players playing in your team then you are doing something right.
“Mo [Salah] deserves all the credit he is getting as he is a goal machine and he works his socks off. He has bounced back really well from his time at Chelsea, so he deserves all the credit that comes his way.
If I had to choose who Liverpool’s best player of the Premier League era is, then I would have to go with Luis Suarez. The reason why is because I knew him and I knew what he was capable of doing.
“Unfortunately, I only get to see Mohammed Salah at the weekend like everybody else. I don’t know what he is like in training, but from what I see during his games, I imagine he is an absolute workhorse.”
