Residents of Yewa North Local Government Area have been called upon to avoid open defecation and dumping of refuse in drainages so as to guard against its devastating effect like cholera which has ravaged some communities, with loss of lives in a neighboring State.

The Chairman, Hon Gabriel Ogunyomi gave the advice in Ayetoro, saying the warning was imperative in view of the havoc cholera out break has wrecked in recent time.

Also, the Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Officer in charge of Oja-Odan,  Mrs Akorede Makinde advised food vendors to inculcate the habit of preparing food in clean environment, so as to protect their customers from avoidable health hazards.

She also enjoined residents to desist from burning refuse as it is a criminal offence in  Ogun State, the only way to healthy environment is cleanliness, explaining that dirty environments exposes people to communicable diseases. 

In her words, the Iyaloja of Yewa Land, Alhaja Yemisi Abass  lauded Government for the provision of public toilets in their various markets and  making trucks available during the weekly sanitation exercise, which she noted has aided proper waste disposal.

On her part, the Iyaloja of Oja Odan, Alhaja Birikisu Dosumu appealed for more improved facilities at the markets, assuring Government of prompt payment of taxies and other dues.
