A call has gone to the government and political leaders at all levels to be systematic and seek innovative solutions to the daunting security challenges confronting the country.
The President, University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu who made this call at the 32nd Annual General Meeting/Congress 1443 AH/2021 held at the Islamic Center Hall, University of Lagos Central Mosque, Akoka urged all Nigerians not to give up and be united in the task of developing the Country.
Alhaji Salisu maintained that for the dangerous drift and all other tendencies that are undermining the national cohesiveness to stop, Nigerians must be stronger together irrespective of tribe, creed or geographical locations.
The President while commending the Independent Electorial Commission (INEC) for the recent creation of additional polling units across the country to improve access to voters particularly in the remote areas, Alhaji Shuaib said Nigerian leaders must consistently provide opportunities platforms to adequately equip the teeming youths with requisite knowledge and skills to confront a number of challenges facing Nigerian youths.
"The commitment of the UMA to the Nigeria of our dream informed the theme of our Pre-Ramadan Lecture in April this year -Thou Tongue and Tribe May Differ: Interrogating Nigeria's Nationhood. The program was stimulating and enriching, this year AGM also come with bumper packages which includes Free basic health check-up to help determine the health status of members, Two lecture sessions, Honoring 32 first class graduates and PhD student" Alh Shuaib submitted.
Giving the account of his stewardship in the outgoing year, the President of UMA Alhaji Shuaib Salisu disclosed that the University management has signified interest in partnering with UMA to address hostel accommodation challenges confronting the students. He added that the UMA organization has continued to grow in limps and bounds as Lagos and Abuja chapters inuaguration of their respective Executives.
In their septate lectures, the country Human Resources Director of Nestle PLC Mr. Shakiru Lawal and Prof. Muibi Olufemi Saibu, Professor of Economic/Director, Institute of Nigeria/China Development Studies delt on "Networking for Career Success" and "From Graduation to Professorship: Path to Success in the Academia" respectively.
In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos Prof. Toyin Ogundipe commended the Muslim Alumni of the institution and promised that the Institution would continue to partner with various Alumni Associations for the overall development of the University.
