No fewer than 1,200 people in Odeda, Local Government on Friday benefitted from the free eye test and cataract screening organised by a leader of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Olumide Jones.
The beneficiaries were also given free glasses and medications while 89 people will under go free cataract surgeries.
The outreach was part of the efforts of Olumide Jones to reduce incidence of avoidable blindness in the society.
The outreach, according to the organiser, was born out of the need to improve the health conditions of the people and based on the understanding that many people do not take good care of their eyes despite the importance of the eyes to the life of every individual as the light to the world.
Olumide Jones while speaking with newsmen after the event maintained that he wants to put smiles on the faces of others by helping them not only with screening, but also with treatment and medications in furtherance of its efforts to fill the vacuum in the health sector towards producing an environment filled with healthy people.
A community leader in the local government, Mr Adelani Akeem has appreciated the philanthropist for his kind gesture, calling on other politicians to emulate him.
He therefore boasted that the people of the local government will support his ambition.
