The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has said Nigeria as an entity is not a mistake from God but that the Almighty wanted the country this way.
Speaking on Thursday at the 2020 Leadership Newspaper award and conference, the Islamic leader warned against any form of religious and ethnic division, saying that it would not help the country surmount its problems.
The Sultan stressed the need for all Nigerians irrespective of their difference to come together to solve any challenge that may confront them.
In the opinion of the Sultan, “If we are to go our one million ways, how do we survive? God Almighty will and can never make a mistake, that is his will and must be obeyed.”
He emphasized that bringing Nigerians together as one country is not a mistake, saying it was what God wanted, and could change it at any time if wanted anything else.
The Sultan suggested that Nigerians have to accept the religious beliefs of others as good Christians and Muslims.
He said the nation’s insecurity would only end when Nigerians form a common front and see it as their personal problem and contribute to end it.
We have to live together as one people to face these challenges of insecurity, no one can do it alone as the commander-in-chief or the chief of defence staff. We must rise up to take the issue of insecurity as our own personal problem, we must all contribute to this challenge of insecurity.”
