Ijebu East is set to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to make the "Ember Months" an accident free for road users within the jurisdiction of the local government area.
The chairman of Ijebu East LG, Hon Wale Adedayo made the disclosure on Monday while hosting the officers of FRSC, Assistant Corps Commandant John Adeboye and his subordinate Mr Gbemiga Bello who also doubles as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Ijebu Ode Unit Command who were on courtesy visit to his office in Ogbere.
The "Ember Months" are the last four months of a calender year namely September, October, November and December, and it is these months that many people believe that are prone to highest number of road accident cases
Adedayo stated that his administration has assisted in reducing accidents on the road through the ongoing repair works on roads within the local government area. Speaking further that operation "no pot-holes" in Ijebu East is one of the priorities of his administration.
"Accidents are not only caused by reckless driving, potholes also cause accident as well. We are going to make our roads good for road users".
"The local government is preparing to liase with FRSC to organise a day workshop for the road users, especially the commercial drivers to educate them on safety precautions in reducing the occurrence of road crash especially in "ember months", he emphasised.
The council boss called the attention of the FRSC officers on the incessant traffic jam within the Ijebu East local government jurisdiction of Sagamu/Benin Expressway. Adding that, there should always be proactive measures in tackling such occurrence.
He was also of the opinion in partnering with security operatives to beef-up the security network on roads within the local government area to the boundary of Ondo State in particular
.
Earlier, Assistant Corps Commandant John Adeboye had apologised to the general public on behalf of erring corps members that might have wronged any road users in the cause of their official duty on the road. Saying further that, there will always be a black sheep in any profession, organisation or society, and that does not called for generalising or painting such profession, organisations or society in black colour.
Mr John Adeboye also eulogized and applauded the council chairman, describing him as an energetic, diligent, servant-leader and man of his words who is always ready to make life bearable to the good people of Ijebu East LG.
Also present in the meeting were the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) of Ijebu East, Mr Ashiru K.A, the Director of General Service and Administration (DGSA), Mr Eweje. A.A, Director of Water and Environmental Sanitation (WES), Mr Odunfa and Director of Information, Education, Youth and Sports, Prince Shoneye respectively.
