Training and retraining are continuous processes that should be embraced by all strata of the society, to bring about meaningful development and desired democratic governance, the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape has said.
Afuape stated this in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta while hosting the leadership of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Institute for Governance Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo Univeristy, Ago-Iwoye, led by Director-General, Prof. Adigun Agbaje.
The Commissioner noted that leadership requires capacity building in all areas of engagement, saying,” when people in authority are well grounded about governance, it will be easier to relate with the people, thereby allowing every member of the society to enjoy democracy”.
He advised the leadership of the Institute to make their courses affordable to give room for more patronage taking different courses, not leaving out those that choose to train in their various workshop exercises.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, said the State government had been involved in activities of the Institute from the onset, assuring that the Ministry would always give it necessary support.
Earlier, Prof. Adigun in his address said the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona had invested in the Institute with a view to promoting better governance approach, adding that the meeting was to partner with the Ministry on training, especially for the newly elected political officers in the Local Governments of the State.
