Residents of Ijebu-Ode have received free Insecticide Treated Nets (ITN) where the Chairman, Alhaji Emilola Gazal urged them to  use the treated nets for protection against mosquito bites to prevent the prevalence of malaria.

This was made known during the flag off ceremony for the distribution of insecticide treated nets by the Ijebu Ode Local Government in Collaboration with Ministry of Health and Society for Family Health in Ijebu Ode.

Alhaji Gazal described malaria as endemic in the country with which has recorded more deaths than some other nations in the world, hence the need to prevent mosquito bites and prevent malaria in the society.

"I want to urge everyone to make use of the net because the Federal Government through the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) of the Ministry of Health has adopted the use of Insecticide Treated Nets as a major vector control strategy towards malaria elimination in Nigeria." Gazal said.

The LG boss said a responsible Government will not play with the health of her people just as a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, saying his administration in collaboration with society for family health has provided free malaria testing with the use of rapid diagnostic test kits and drugs in all health facilities in the Local Government for the use of the entire Community in Ijebu Ode.

Also Speaking, the representative of Society for Family Health, Mrs Ogechi Ozioko said the residents should cooperate with the staff that would distribute the Insecticide Treated Nets saying they should make use of it in order to reduce the prevalence of malaria in our community.
