The Ogun State Government has called on healthcare practitioners to be acquainted with the latest technology to avoid wrong diagnosis that may have negative effects on patients.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who made this call at the Annual Basic Ultrasound Scan Workshop held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, said outdated knowledge easily results in inappropriate treatment.
Declaring the workshop open, Coker, who doubled as a Guest Lecturer at the event, emphasised the need for adequate training in the use of ultrasound scan machine and encouraged them to increase their skills in ultrasonography and to attend update courses.
She revealed the plan of the State government to make sure all those who engage in ultrasound scan practice be properly certified, enjoining sonographers and all clinicians to attend rich training like the one being organised by the Department of Obstetrician and Gynaecology, of the OOUTH.
Speaking earlier, the Workshop Coordinator, Dr. Olufemi Oloyede, assured that the department will not relent in updating the knowledge of its personnel.
