To further expose learners to different trades, impart skills and practice that would transform them into useful and independent adults later in life, the Ogun State Government has concluded plans to incorporate and implement 34 trade subjects in secondary school curriculum, beginning with its 42 flagship schools.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa disclosed this in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while receiving the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, led by its Chairman Mr. Soji Amosun, saying the move would enable the students choose and learn during the course of studies.
Prof. Odemuyiwa affirmed that the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun is determined to use technical and vocational education as a tool for employment creation, self-sustenance for a better society devoid of insecurity and other social ills, soliciting the support of the Union for aggressive awareness for youths to tap into the opportunity.
Earlier in his presentation, Mr. Amosun signified the readiness of the Union to support the State government in reviving technical education across the State in order to retain the status of the State as the Industrial hub of Nigeria.
“We want to appreciate the present administration for its focus on technical education, we are ready to assist the government in preaching the gospel of skills acquisition to both informal and formal learners, get youths out of the streets and make them self-employable for economy growth of the State”, he said.
