The Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Lateef Salami has attributed the landslide victory recorded during the last Local Government election to the good work and exemplary leadership exhibited by Prince Dapo Abiodun which he said is worthy of emulation.
Hon. Salami who said this during the inauguration of the Legislative Council of the Local Government at the legislative chamber called on the newly inaugurated law makers to see their new position as a wake-up call to serve the people.
He urged the councilors to perform their duties diligently and with utmost sincerity, advising that all hands must be on deck to ensure that citizens of the Council area enjoy dividends of democracy.
"I want to remind you that the victory was a call to duty. All eyes are on us. We are expected to discharge our constitutional roles to the best of our ability. I pray that God in his infinite mercies will grant us the wisdom and zeal to deliver to the expectations of our people who elected us to represent them.
"This honourable House must in all ramifications evolve bye laws that will bring succor and development to the life of ordinary citizens of this Local Government. We should endeavor to work in harmony for the improvement of lives of our people, the State and nation at large", Hon. Salami posited.
Delivering his acceptance speech, the elected Leader of the House, Hon. Talabi Satiu representing Owode Ward 3, assured that under his leadership, the House would be united, imploring members to work in harmony and avoid all forms of rancor and acrimony towards making bye laws that would be beneficial to the people.
"We are here to serve and not to be served. People are watching us and want to see us surpass the achievements of the past legislatures", he said.
Other elected principal officers of the House include; Hon. Sunday Olabimtan, from Ilaro ward 1 as Deputy leader; Hon. Adeshiyan Olukunle, from Ilaro ward 2 as Chief whip, while Hon. Ayo Olugbemi of Oke-Odan Ward, was elected as Majority Leader.
Floor members of the house include Hon. Monsuru Tijani, Ilaro ward 2; Hon. Semiu Olaifa, Iwoye Ward; Hon. Olubiyi Kazeem, Idogo Ward; Hon. Odebiyi Waliu, Owode 1; Hon. Yinusa Razak, Owode 2; and Hon. Aminat Lawal, Ajilete Ward.
