The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said his administration will not rest on its oars at promoting excellence and qualitative service delivery in the health sector, in line with global best practices.
Governor Abiodun who made this known in Abeokuta, while declaring open the 2021 Examiners’ workshop organised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), with the theme, ‘Enhancing professional Nursing and Midwifery Examination outcomes through Education: Clinician Synergy’, said the sector remains a major pillar of his administration’s agenda.
Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, the Governor pointed out that the quality of student nurses and midwives in the State is a reflection of what had been impacted in the course of their training, saying it had given a pride of place to skills development through clinical learning.
“The Nurse Clinicians and Educators must work hand-in-hand in ensuring that quality education is delivered to the students. I have no doubt that this workshop will improve competency of both the Educators and Clinicians with the ultimate goal of achieving better health outcomes”, Governor Abiodun said.
The State’s helmsman stated that the theme of the workshop would further address the need for clinical proficiencies, which were important in identifying competences in the nursing profession.
In his remarks, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, represented by the Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Chris Bode, said the diligence of nurses and other health workers resulted in the success recorded thus far in the fight against COVID-19, calling on them to always give the best in the discharge of their duties.
