The Ogun State Government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that education of pupils in the State is done in line with laid down rules and regulations.
To this end, the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has held a sensitisation meeting with stakeholders in Primary Education on the registration of six-year old children into public primary one class for the year 2021/2022 academic session.
Addressing participants at the meeting, the Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu promised that his Ministry would intensify its quality control exercise to get rid of unapproved schools that lower the standard set by the government
According to him, the Ministry will reorganise the nursery and primary arm for better performance, saying plans are ongoing to launch a ‘house-to-house education for all’ sensitisation campaign across the State.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye reiterated the readiness of the government towards recruiting more teachers, to ensure effective teaching and learning in schools across the State.
Underscoring the significance of the meeting, the Director of Education, Primary Department, Mr. Olanrewaju Erinle submitted that it was convened to enhance improvement in children's enrolment into the public primary school.
Speaking earlier, the State Secretary, Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria, Mr. Adesina Olugbemiga highlighted some of the challenges responsible for poor enrolment to include; change of environment, loss of parent, poverty, care-free attitude from the parents among others, urging the government to put sensitisation programme in place on the importance of education.
In another development, the Ministry has handed over the Science Laboratory Equipment donated by the Federal Ministry of Education to Orile-Ilugun Comprehensive High School in Odeda Local Government and Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government.
Prof. Arigbabu while handing over the equipment enjoined the beneficiaries to put them into good use and ensure their proper maintenance, commending the schools’ management for outstanding administrative performance that stood them out among their peers.
In their responses, the principals of the benefitting schools, Mr. Olusegun George and Mrs. Adenike Adeboye, appreciated the State government for the opportunity, promising that the equipment would be maintained properly.
