To effectively promote and harness the resources and capacity of Nigerians in the Diaspora, for the growth and development of Ogun State and the nation at large, Governor Dapo Abiodun, has approved the establishment of Diaspora’s Office in the State.

Recently, the Federal Government established the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), to ensure that the Diaspora community played a vital role in economic development of the country through creation of businesses, promotion of trade, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), transferring of skills and knowledge.

The Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Affairs, Barrister Femi Ogunbanwo who made this known in a statement, said the establishment of the office would improve and sustain strong socio-cultural and economic relations with the Diaspora for national development, and it would also promote policy consistency and coherence through the establishment of strategies that promote collaboration and synergies among existing Diaspora strides.

Other benefits according to the commissioner include the State government's links with Diaspora’s programmes and the creation of environment for temporary and permanent transfer of critical skills and expertise, as well as collaborative research between Diaspora experts and home- based colleagues.

Barrister Ogunbanwo pointed out that the Diaspora’s Office, which is majorly targeted at the State indigenes, would be domiciled in the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter Government Affairs and managed in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
