OGSG, REDAN JOIN FORCES TO SANITIZE REAL ESTATE SECTOR

OGSG, REDAN JOIN FORCES TO SANITIZE REAL ESTATE SECTOR

Ogun State Government is collaborating with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), to effectively sanitize the real estate sector and ensure due process was followed before embarking on any development across the State.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami disclosed this during a meeting with members of REDAN in his office, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, pointing out that many Real Estate Developers were in the habit of developing landed property without approved layout from the State Government.

He advised developers to obtain layout approval for their estates at his Ministry or any registered Town Planning Consultants, as the law mandates anyone with landed property of more than one hectare to apply for layout permit from the State Government, before selling or developing such land.

While advising them to do their business within the ambit of the Urban and Regional Planning of Ogun State, TPL. Odunlami stated that residential estates cannot be cited just anywhere, urging intending developers to always confirm from the Ministry before embarking on purchase of land for development in any area of their choice, ‘’as some areas are designated, ‘non-residential’, while some are committed government acquisitions’’.

The Commissioner pointed out that Ogun State Government has the responsibility, not only to ensure that the land scape of the State was developed according to plan, but also, those who buy lands get value for their money.

He assured the association of government’s support for the success of their Business, once they follow due process.

TPL Odunlami therefore advised Real Estate Developers operating within the State to register with REDAN for easy identification and quality control, to curb incoherent development in the State.

In her contribution, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, TPL Yetunde Dina, assured the association of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with it, so as to have a better coordinated physical development of the State, requesting for names of registered members of the association, in order to create more enabling environment for partnership.

Earlier in their separate remarks, Chairman Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Oyebola Okusanya and the South-West Chairman of the Association, Mr. Debo Adejano, assured the Ministry of the Association’s readiness to collaborate with it to curb sharp practices in the sector, advising developers to get layout approval from the State Government before advertising land for sale.
