Lockdown Palliatives: Sagamu LG Begins Distribution of Ogun Relief Materials

Lockdown Palliatives: Sagamu LG Begins Distribution of Ogun Relief Materials

In a bid to cushion the effect of the lockdown on residents, Sagamu Local  Government Council has embarked on the distribution of relief materials provided by  the Ogun State Government to the widows, Aged and Vulnerable in the Area.

Speaking during the distribution of the relief materials, Chairman Transition Committee, Sagamu Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenga Banjo said the gesture which is part of the government interventions in ameliorating the effect of the lockdown on the masses, were packs of foodstuff like rice, beans, garri, salt, maggi and other ingredients.

He stressed that  the materials were only for the poor, widows and aged in the local government adding that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration feels the plight of the people especially during this period when the government has directed residents to stay at home in order tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chairman said the relief materials were distributed at the door-steps of every household in order to avoid unnecessary anxiety and crowding, a situation which would have negated the directive on social distancing in the war against Covid-19.

A member, Ogun State House of Assembly representing  Sagamu Constituency 1, Hon. Segun Shita  lauded the effort of the State government stating that the materials would go a long way in assisting his constituents at this period of the lockdown.

He advised  the people to maintain social distancing, wash their hands regularly, maintain good hygiene and adhere strictly to the government policy on the lockdown in order to put an end to the pandemic in the country.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Olurotimi Sotubo described the distribution exercise as smooth and successful stating that " we are not only distributing  but also Sensitizing  people to stay at home and stay safe. "They need to play their part  because government cannot do it alone".

Beneficiaries of the relief materials, Mrs. Veronica Ogundiyan at Isale-Oko and Mr. Aina Samuel  at Ilaye town both in Sagamu, in their individual response thanked Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for supporting them through the provision of the relief materials during this challenging period.
