OGSG EMPOWERS PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED WITH WORKING TOOLS.
Regular empowerment of people living with disabilities, have been
identified as the easiest way towards realising the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development themed “Leaving No One Behind".
Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Abiola
Kufile-Okonji, stated this at the celebration of the 2018 World Leprosy Day
and World Hearing Day, sponsored by her Ministry, held at Women Development
Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
She noted that the Ministry has
concluded arrangement to celebrate people living with disabilities before
the grand celebration of World Disabilities Day, which comes up in December
every year, stating that the celebration was in line with United Nations
Resolution.
Mrs. Kufile-Okonji, represented by the Director,
Social Welfare Service, Mr. Olurotimi Sotubo, re-emphasized the State
government's resolve to continually improve the living standard of the
special people, urging the beneficiaries to make effective use of the items
to encourage the government to do more. "I am sure you are not
just ready to receive these equipments, but to also put them into effective
use. I therefore implore the leaders of each cluster group to ensure
thorough supervision of these tools".
Earlier in her welcome
address, the Director, Administration and Supplies, Mrs. Funmi Osibodu,
appreciated God for His faithfulness in the lives of the people, adding
that with concerted efforts, there are limitless opportunities in
disability.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the
Chairman, Joint National Association of People Living with Disabilities
(JONAPWD), Mr. Olalekan Muhammed, while acknowledging the relentless
support of the present administration for members of the group, pledging
that the Association would ensure close monitoring of the empowerment
tools.
Materials distributed include, grinding machines, giant
umbrellas with recharge cards of all available networks, and coolers for
sale of cold drinks
