TRADERS CAUTIONED AGAINST TRADING ON WALKWAYS

TRADERS CAUTIONED AGAINST TRADING ON WALKWAYS
Traders in Abeokuta Metropolis have again been warned to desist from trading on walkways across the State or face sanctions.
The team leader of the Ogun State Environmental Sanitation Task Force, Mr. Owolabi Odutan, gave this warning during an unscheduled monitoring exercise at Lafenwa, Itoku, Sapon, Omida and Panseke Markets.
Oduntan said the State government had prohibited trading on walkways as it was an abuse of the purpose for which they had been constructed, adding that traders should make use of areas that had been designated for the trading purposes.
He noted that it was an eyesore for people to trade at undesignated places such as under bridge walkways, unauthorized premises within the newly constructed shopping malls, saying government would not hesitate to wield the big stick against erring traders as the Ministry of Environment had on numerous occasions sensitized the traders through their leaders.
Odutan advised traders to inculcate the habit of clearing the drainages in front of their stalls and shops in order to ensure free flow of water during the rainy season, adding that the monitoring and enforcement exercise would be continuous until compliance with environmental best practices was achieved across all markets.
